My Prayer Today

Heavenly Father,  Thank You for the opportunity to gather with brothers and sisters through Your Son, Jesus, to worship and glorify You this day!  I pray that as we gather Your Holy Spirit will descend on us and fill us anew that we may sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to You, rejoicing in our hearts for Your great love and presence in our lives.  May our worship be a fragrant offering to You, and may You inhabit the praises of us, Your people. I pray that as corporate worship ends, we will all see it as the beginning of a week of worship of Your in our thoughts, words and actions.  All this I pray in the strong name of Jesus Christ, my risen Lord, Amen.

Bible Verses

Psalm 29

1    Give honor to the LORD, you angels; give honor to the LORD for his glory and strength.
2    Give honor to the LORD for the glory of his name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
3    The voice of the LORD echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The LORD thunders over the mighty sea.
4    The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5    The voice of the LORD splits the mighty cedars; the LORD shatters the cedars of Lebanon.
6    He makes Lebanon’s mountains skip like a calf and Mount Hermon to leap like a young bull.
7    The voice of the LORD strikes with lightning bolts.
8    The voice of the LORD makes the desert quake; the LORD shakes the desert of Kadesh.
9    The voice of the LORD twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare. In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!”
10  The LORD rules over the floodwaters. The LORD reigns as king forever.
11  The LORD gives his people strength.  The LORD blesses them with peace.

Applying Worship to My Daily Life

David and Worship

King David and worship are nearly synonymous in the Old Testament.  David is credited with authoring more of the Psalms than any other writer.  David learned to worship God from an early age, and God referred to David as a man after His own heart.  We can learn much from David’s approach to worship—first David worshiped God with his WHOLE heart.  For David worship was not a one hour experience each week, but he meditated on God’s word “day and night.”  David worship the LORD continually.  David also came to worship with an attitude of repentance when that was needed.  David admitted his sins and begged God for forgiveness and mercy, so that he could approach life with “clean hands and a pure heart.”  For David worship was definitely a VERB and not a noun.  David worshiped in song, in words, in prayer, in action, in every possible manner.  David worshiped in times of joy, in times of sorrow and everything in between.  It was the great desire of David’s heart to build a temple to glorify God and as a place for His people to worship Him, but that never came to be in his lifetime.  Ultimately David’s son, Solomon, would complete this task.  Every aspect of David’s life was filled with his relationship with the LORD, that’s why worship was such a natural response in his life.  As we go about our corporate worship and our daily lives, we would do well to emulate David’s example and offer our whole heart, mind, body and spirit to the Lord.  When we do that worship will become a lifestyle, and that’s the goal!
