A note about online study
Dear God, Thank you that your thoughts about me are innumerable! You know me better than I know myself. I praise you for creating me with such detail. I am wonderfully made because You did all the work. Thank you that you knew all about me even before I was born. You indeed are marvelous! I praise you for being such an awesome Creator. I praise you for giving my life a purpose and plan. Help me to not only discover your plan for my life this day, but also to follow your perfect will in everything. I want to live every moment for you. I ask for your grace this day to do what you want accomplished in my life. I pray this all in the name of Jesus my Savior . . . Amen.
Psalm 139:13-18
"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous -- and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up in the morning you are still with me!"
According to Psalm 139, who is the Creator of all human beings?
When does it say that He knew us?
What did He know about our lives when he "knit us together"?
According to Psalm 139, do you think God is concerned about details? Why?
How many thoughts does God have about us? How many thoughts do you think we have in comparison?
Does God know us better than we know ourselves? How so?
What is one thing that you are thankful about yourself? Why?
What is one area in your life that you know God has been working on?
What is God's plan for your life? (This is the big question).
Sit down today and list on a sheet of paper several talents, gifts, or hobbies that you enjoy. Furthermore, take time after you have written these down to "thank" the Lord for giving you those things.
Take 1 minute today and do nothing but look into the mirror. While looking into the mirror, thank the Lord for creating you with all your special features. (Focus on the things that you don't always think about -- eyes, teeth, ears, etc. . .) This may be hard, but it also may reveal a sense of insecurity about ourselves that God wants to heal.
God is the "mastermind" behind all of creation. He is the Creator, the Designer, the Master architect, and the Builder of the entire universe. Have you ever thought of that? -- God likes to build things. Not only does He like to build the "big" things like the sun, moon, stars, or our planet, but He also loves to design us as individuals! We are the pinnacle of His creation -- the last of all things to be created (on the sixth day of God's creation in Genesis 1&2). From the beginning of time, God has been at work. In Psalms 139:13-18, David tells of God's wonderful activity in our lives even before we were ever born. What an amazing thought! God has been working on us, designing and forming us, from the moment he first thought of us. The building project began before we even took our first breath!
God knows us better than we could ever know ourselves. It says in verses 17 and 18 that His thoughts about us are "innumerable" -- even "outnumbering the grains of sand!" Now that is A LOT of thoughts -- considering all of the sand that exist when you go to a beach -- let alone all the beaches in the world. If God has that many thoughts about us, then He definitely knows us much better than we could ever know ourselves. The reason why God knows us so much better is because He designed us. He put the "blueprint" together on us. He planned us out from the beginning. Do not be discouraged about who you are, because you are God's workmanship! There is nobody as good at being you, as "you." God made you different from everybody for a reason. You were a "10 out of 10" for the job! Take time this day to thank the Lord for who you are, and ask Him to help you to become all that He wants you to be -- for God has worked, and is working on you.
