Can you imagine what it must have been like for the remaining eleven disciples as they endured the reality that Jesus, the one they thought was the Messiah, lay dead in a tomb, and their hopes and dreams along with him? We know that it was just a matter of another day before the mourning would turn to rejoicing. They didn’t. For them, the three year journey of life with the Messiah had come to a crashing halt. Peter had to live with the reality of His denial of Jesus. The rest had to live with running away, when Jesus needed them most. All lived with the fear that because of their association with Jesus, they, too, were potential victims of a Roman cross. We CAN’T imagine what that would have been like, but THANK GOD that we know that Good Friday was not the end of Jesus. Tomorrow we celebrate the greatest victory in the history of the world—Jesus defeat of sin and death!
If you had been one of Jesus’ disciples how do you think you would have spent this day—the day after Jesus’ crucifixion?
