Prayer Focus for Today
Heavenly Father, my prayer focus today is the worship of Your Church universal—throughout the world. I pray particularly for disciples in places where worshiping You is against the law, and that in worshiping You the cost may be one’s life. I pray that You will continue to give boldness and zeal for disciples in such places, and that their commitment may serve as the strongest of witnesses to others of the reality of You being the one, true and living God, and the only one worthy of worship and praise. God, I pray for those such as myself, who live in places where worshiping You is a right that is taken for granted, and where it is often not lived out with zeal and passion. Lord, create in all of us hearts for worship, that You may be glorified and praised. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
God’s Word Today: John 4:19-24
19“Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. 20So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?”
21Jesus replied, “Believe me, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father here or in Jerusalem. 22You Samaritans know so little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 23But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship him that way. 24For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

True Worshipers!
What is a true worshiper of God? Today’s Scripture doesn’t give us many details, other than to say that those who worship God truly must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Obviously, to worship God in spirit in truth requires that the Holy Spirit is in control of our lives and is thus guiding our spirits within us. The first step in becoming a true worshiper, then, is to give up control of our lives to God. That sounds easy, but as with much of the Christian life things that say easy, do hard! Jesus didn’t promise the Samaritan woman an easy life. He promised to give her living water that would well up in her to eternal life! (You have to read the rest of Jesus’ interaction with her in John 4 to find that information!) Our worship and devotion to Jesus remind us that He is the giver of life—now and forever—and thus, our worship of Him is the most important matter of our lives. Let’s WORSHIP today!
