“Study to show yourself approved by God …” 2 Timothy 2:15a KJV
Offer a prayer of thanksgiving to God for sending Jesus to die as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins!
Thank God for sending Jesus as our ultimate sacrifice!
Hebrews 7:26-28
26 He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. 27 Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins. 28 The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever.
A. W. Tozer said, “Our Lord died an apparent failure, discredited by the leaders of established religion, rejected by society and forsaken by his friends. It took the resurrection to demonstrate how gloriously Christ had triumphed and how tragically the world had failed. The resurrection demonstrated once and for all who won and who lost.”
From today’s reading, why is Jesus the kind of high priest the world needs?
Jesus is not simply offering believers a better life. He is not offering us an easy way. He is not offering us a new religion or philosophy of life.
Jesus does not merely offer to be for us or with us, He offers to live in us. The world took what it wanted from Him and rejected Him. What did the world take from Jesus?
The world listened to Jesus’ teachings – and did what they wanted. The world ate the loaves and fish – but tossed away the One who fed them. They received His healing – and then walked away without a thank you. Not matter what the world took from Jesus, His offer still stands.
In Galatians 1:3-5 we read: 3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. 4 Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. 5 All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
What does Jesus offer to those who believe in Him?
Ephesians 5:1-2
1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
How can we, as disciples of Jesus, imitate God each day?
How can we be a “pleasing aroma to God?”
New Life will be collecting Blessing Bags on Palm Sunday. A blessing bag is a simple brown paper bag that you fill with groceries that will be shared with those in our community who need to receive a blessing this Easter season. Bags can be picked up at worship or you may use your own bag. For those in our Internet community, if you would like to provide gift credit cards that we can use to purchase necessities or share a financial gift for the “BB’s” through our PayPal option, we would be blessed by these gifts! Be a blessing to others. Jesus made a difference – you can too!
Note any thoughts from Through the Bible or the Daily Reading here:
On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Jesus instructed His disciples to take part in the commemoration of His death and resurrection. It also reminds us that He is coming again.
Jesus died once for all. He died for our sins. Is He Lord of your life today? It really does us no good to remember what He did for us, if He is not Lord of our life. If He is not Lord of your life, it’s just juice and bread. If He is Lord of your life, the Lord’s Supper is a powerful reminder of what He has done, and is still doing, for us.
Jesus is our Great High Priest. He is the only avenue to God. He offered Himself as a full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.
Will you, like the world, take and then reject? Or will you, as a believer and disciple, accept Jesus’ offer? He is the ultimate sacrifice. Receive … be forgiven … and rejoice in the new life we have with Him!
