“Study to show yourself approved by God …” 2 Timothy 2:15a KJV
Heavenly Father, I pray for the peace of heaven to reign in my life today! I pray that You will pour out Your Holy Spirit in my life so that I may remember from moment to moment that You are in charge of my life and that nothing will happen today that can disrupt that peace when You are in control! Glorify Yourself in my thoughts, words and deeds, and use me to present the good news of Your salvation to others. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
We will examine several verses of this passage each day and see how they relates to the peace of heaven in our lives through Jesus!
28After telling this story, Jesus went on toward Jerusalem, walking ahead of his disciples. 29As they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany, on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples ahead. 30“Go into that village over there,” he told them, “and as you enter it, you will see a colt tied there that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘the Lord needs it.’”
32So they went and found the colt, just as Jesus had said. 33And sure enough, as they were untying it, the owners asked them, “Why are you untying our colt?”
34And the disciples simply replied, “The Lord needs it.” 35So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on.
36Then the crowds spread out their coats on the road ahead of Jesus. 37As they reached the place where the road started down from the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen.
38 “Bless the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven
and glory in highest heaven!”
39But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, “Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!”
40He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”
In looking at Luke 19:38, we see that believers praise and honor God. What specific praise is offered to Jesus during His “triumphal entry” into Jerusalem?
What role do you think you would have been playing if you were in the crowd that day?
According to today’s Scripture what does it take to go deeper in our walk with Jesus?
One of the most important actions we can carry out as disciples of Jesus is to take the time to worship and praise Him. Take some time right now to do just that. Don’t ask God to meet your needs, just praise Him for who He is! Write any thoughts or insights that come during this time below:
One simple way to reach out to a neighbor, friend, family member, co-worker, classmate, or acquaintance THIS week is to invite the person to join us for worship this coming Sunday for our EASTER CELEBRATION. Remember, most people who don’t attend worship on a regular basis are more apt to say, “Yes,” on Easter than most other days of the year. Also, offer to pick them up and drive them to the service OR to meet them at one of the doors to the high school in order to make it as easy as possible to join us for worship for the first time. Most people haven’t rejected Jesus. They’ve rejected the church for one reason or another. Your taking the time to offer a personal invitation may just be what the person needs to get back to worship. Pray for the person each day this week as well!
Note any thoughts from Through the Bible or the Daily Reading here:
Sometimes we forget that Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords. We live in a country with elected officials and a democratic way of life. That means we don’t have a king. It means that we aren’t all that familiar with a monarchy or in this case a “theocracy”—rule by God! As we go about each day, though, God IS in charge of our lives and He is the one who gets to decide what is and isn’t best for us. The challenge we face is making sure that we don’t let anything or anyone become the “king” in Jesus’ place. Jesus told us that we WILL have a master. That’s true whether we live in a “free” country or not. The best way to bless the King is to make sure we do give Him place as master in our lives right now!
