Colossians

For this is the secret:
Christ lives in you,
and this is your assurance
that you will share in his glory.
So everywhere we go,
we tell everyone about Christ.

The apostle Paul wrote his letter to the church in Colosse (a small city in Asia Minor – modern Turkey – that he never visited) while he was in a Roman prison.  The church was being infiltrated by religious relativism, with some believers attempting to meld elements of their former pagan lives and the prevalent secular philosophy with Christian teachings.  They were becoming tolerant and accepting of all types of beliefs and thoughts.  The Gospel was being compromised. 

The parallels between the Colossian church and many of today’s Christian churches is remarkable.  Paul’s words continue to resonate – just as they did in A. D. 60!  We need to be watchful of the connections that we make with the world and we need to remain faithfully connected to God’s Word and truth.
