Philippians 4:10-14
“I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.”

In Philippians 4:4-10, the apostle Paul thanks the church for sending gifts through Epaphroditus (vs18). For a period of time the Philippian church was separated from Paul (vs10), but when they had the opportunity, they generously gave to support Paul’s ministry. Paul, in turn, wanted to thank them for their generosity, but reminded them that he was content with the situation that he was in. He wasn’t beggar asking for charity, but he was rather a contented servant in the Lord. The secret of his contentment was finding the strength to endure every circumstance through a wonderful union with Jesus. It’s this union with Jesus that brings the infusion of power for every situation. Just as Paul learned how to be content through his union with Jesus, so we also can endure all situations through our relationship with Jesus. He alone provides the basis for our contentment.
