Another detour this morning... It's eleven days until Abby's (our older daughter) wedding. This weekend we're traveling to Harrisburg, where I'll be officiating at Matt Marshall's (my nephew) wedding. This morning we totally changed plans in one area so Emmy (our younger daughter) could be in Cincinnati with Abby for our friend Staci's wedding. If you're confused, join the club! The Nationwide commercials used to say, "Life comes at you fast!" That's no lie. Right now life is coming at me like I'm drinking water from a fire hose. But it's all good, because God is in charge, Jesus is still the Healer, and the Holy Spirit lives in me (and every believer) to apply the truth and power of God in us. I share all of that to say--life often comes at us fast, and in ways we don't expect. Sometimes those unexpected things are good (or at least we perceive them as good), and sometimes they're bad (or at least we perceive them as bad). Whether they're good or bad, Jesus' healing power sustains us and strengthens us. I'm drawing on that right now, as my pulse and blood pressure are returning to normal after several phone calls and text messages to rearrange the whole weekend in a way that will ultimately be "better" for everyone--I think. The good news is whatever our perception of the weekend when we reflect back on it next Monday, God WILL have been in control, Jesus hand WILL have been on the process and the Holy Spirit WILL have guided us through it---as we give up the control and let Him. The key to healing or at least wholeness in our lives, is letting God reign in us. When He's in control even when situations seem out of control it's okay. When He isn't in control, even when we think we have it all under control it is not ultimately okay. The one thing that truly matters, then, is giving control of our lives and circumstances to the one true and living God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Let's pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing the end of things from before the beginning! Thank You for comforting us in times of challenge, and for challenging us when we get too comfortable. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may glorify You in all we are and do. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
