As I mentioned in the message on Sunday, the Gospels tell us of only two times when Jesus was amazed: He was amazed at the lack of faith of the people from His hometown, and He was amazed by the faith of the Roman Centurion who asked Jesus for a miracle of healing for his servant. The amazing faith of the Roman Centurion was demonstrated in his belief that Jesus could heal the servant just by commanding it from where He stood. He believed Jesus didn't even have to go to the place where the servant lay sick in bed! That's faith, isn't it? Here's the question for us today: Do we have amazing faith or an extreme lack of faith? Those are the only two conditions that amaze Jesus. After all, how amazing is it when someone has a mediocre faith in Jesus? It isn't tough to have a little faith in Jesus---if you believe anything the Bible says about Him. What's amazing is to read the accounts of His teaching, healing miracles, casting out of demons, and other signs and wonders--AND His resurrection from the dead and say, "I don't believe He's the Son of God." That will amaze Jesus--but not in a good way. On the other hand, if we read the accounts of Jesus life, death and resurrection, if we believe that He sent the Holy Spirit to fill and empower His followers--then and now--and if we have faith that Jesus can heal us even when He isn't physically near us, that amazes Jesus, too! So, how would you like to amaze Jesus today: through a total lack of faith, or by believing He can do anything in our lives, even though He isn't physically with us? That seems like a no brainer, doesn't it? Yet, all too often we act as though Jesus can't do anything, as though His miracles of healing and deliverance were just for the first century. Let's amaze Jesus today--the good way, by trusting Him for the miracles we need in our lives--the miracles we know by faith He can and will deliver. Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for sending Jesus into the world to save us from sin, and to empower us to live faithful, abundant lives. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit right now so we may trust in You, and amaze Jesus with our faith in Him. This we pray in His name. Amen. |
