Have you ever asked yourself this question: "Is there anything I need in life of which God is unaware?" In other words, "Does God know your needs?" Of course He does. Look at what Jesus wrote in Matthew 6:31-32: 31“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. When we worry about what we're going to eat, drink and wear, we do two things: 1) We admit we're "Christian Atheists" as Pastor Brad put it in his message on Sunday; that is we may say we believe in God, but in very practical terms we're saying we don't believe in Him, because He isn't aware of our needs and/or He doesn't care about them; and 2) We say God's knowledge is limited. Obviously, since God is the creator of all that exists, and He knows EVERYTHING, His knowledge is not limited. One of the most comforting realities I've come to trust in my life is this: God KNOWS. When I sin, I don't try to hide it from God, because He already knows. When I do something "good," I don't say, "God, look at me!" because He already did. When I have a need, I don't wonder whether God knows about it, because He does. In those moments when I give control of my heart and mind to the Holy Spirit, worry is impossible based on such knowledge. The challenge is giving control of my heart and mind to the Holy Spirit. That struggle the Apostle Paul talks about in Galatians 5:16-18 between the Holy Spirit and my "sinful nature" or my "flesh" depending on which translation we read, is a real struggle. The Holy Spirit always wins when I give Him control, but all too often I grasp at the control and in my sinful nature I fall short. I sin. I worry. I don't think God knows. According to Jesus, in those moments I'm thinking as an unbeliever--as a "pagan" as some translations put it. I don't know about you, but I don't really want to be a pagan or an unbeliever. That means giving control of my life to the Holy Spirit moment by moment. It means you giving control of your life to the Holy Spirit, moment by moment. Let's take some time right now to consider who's in control--our "flesh" or the Holy Spirit. It's easy to tell--if we're worrying, it's the flesh. If we're sure that God knows all our needs, it's the Holy Spirit. Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thanks for sending Jesus to give us new life! Thanks for sending Your Spirit to live in us so we may KNOW You and Your love and provision for us at every moment. Eliminate our worry and give us hope! This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
